Introducing...Blogger of the Month!
Friday, June 01, 2012
My blog is growing. It's been a slow growth, but everyone starts somewhere, right? I'd like for my blog to keep growing. With that in mind, I have several friends who blog who I'm sure would love to grow their blogs as well. So I decided to start a Blogger of the Month feature. Every month, I will feature one blogger whose blog I really enjoy, in hopes that you'll enjoy their blog as well.
June's Blogger of the Month is my good friend Jess, who blogs at Life, Happily Ever After. She writes a lifestyle blog with an emphasis on DIY. I asked her some questions about her life and her blog, and she was kind enough to answer them for me.
Q: So why did you start your blog?
A: I have been blogging for a long time. My first blog was actually on LiveJournal and I started it in January 2004. Since then, I always had a fondness for blogging and sharing my thoughts with the world. I have had blogs for every topic under the sun. I had a blog about college, I had a blog about losing weight with a friend, so it only seemed fitting to start a blog about a new time in my life, as a newlywed.
Q: How did you pick the name Life, Happily Ever After?
A: When I first started the blog, the name was "And we live happily ever after", which really stated the topic of the blog as married life. I have always been a fan of fairy tales, so when I got married, I felt I was really living my "happily ever after". When I decided to move over to wordpress.org and host my own blog, I was searching for a domain name. andwelivehappilyeverafter.com was taken, and it seemed waaaaay too long. I was searching for a name that would keep the same idea of the original name, but shorten it, and I came up with lifehappilyeverafter.com and it was available.
Q: What do you feel is your biggest strength when it comes to your blog?
A: My biggest strength I think is my variety. There are a lot of blogs out there about specific topics: DIY, Married Life, Fashion, Weight Loss, Recipes, etc. I have a little of everything. I think of my blog as a life blog. I write about it all :)
Q: Your biggest weakness?
A: I think my biggest strength is my biggest weakness. A lot of blog readers are looking for a specific topic. My blog doesn't really offer that, so I feel that maybe some readers turn away. Also, I haven't been very consistent with posting. I really try to post regularly, but if life gets really crazy, it can be 5-10 days before I think about it again. I have been working on that.
Q: What has been your favorite DIY project so far?
A: Man, there have been so many! I think my favorite is my bed. It was one of the first things we built, and we still love it today.
Q: What home decor item are you most lusting after right now?
A: I saw a purple ceramic elephant on Joss and Main a few weeks ago. I don't know what it is about that little elephant, but I have never wanted something so much!
Q: What is your next big DIY project?
A: I saw a pin on Pinterest where someone covered large panels of styrofoam with fabric for large art. I want to cover three panels, and paint a 6-foot spoon, fork, and knife in fun, almost Andy Warhol-like colors for my dining room!
Q: What is your favorite part about blogging?
A: My favorite part is getting to inspire people. I love getting a comment on my blog that my weight loss is inspiring them to lose. It keeps me motivated and really touches my heart.
Q: What's next for you?
A: Well, we are moving into an apartment in the middle of June, and so there will be lots of decorating! Then in the next year or so we are hoping to buy a house and start a family!
Q: Is there anything else you'd like to share with Good Girl Gone Wife readers?
A: I want to thank you all for reading Good Girl Gone Wife and my guest post today! Without you, we would have nothing to blog for. I can't thank you enough!
Thanks so much Jess!
Stay tuned for Jess's guest post (probably tomorrow)...she's sharing a secret family recipe, so it's something you can only find here!
