I love makeup.

I realize this may come as a shock to those of you who know me in real life, since I hardly wear any, but that's usually because I'm too broke to replace my old makeup and/or I'm feeling too tired/lazy to deal with putting it on (thankfully the acne thing skipped me and I was blessed with awesome skin).

Summer makeup and winter makeup are totally different.  Winter is about darker colors and thicker layers.  If you wore winter makeup in the summer, it would melt off your face.  Summer makeup is all about being fresh and light.  I feel like you only need a few products to look good in the summer (well, in winter too, but that's a different post).

I generally only use drugstore brands (though I do LOVE me some Sephora, and splurge there when I have the chance), so if you're looking for Dior mascara or Clinique foundation, this is not the place to look.

I'm a big believer that tinted moisturizers are the way to go in the summer.  They're much lighter than liquid foundation and look more natural than cream foundations.  They feel a lot better on your skin.  As an added bonus, they usually contain SPF (often at least SPF 15).  I used to use Hard Candy's Sheer Envy Tinted Moisturizer, but it's been discontinued.  This Aveeno version has been even better.  It comes in different shades to match a variety of skin tones, and it has SPF 30.

If I could only have one beauty product, it would be mascara.  Even on days I don't wear makeup, I usually do at least throw on a coat of mascara.  It may seem like a little thing, but it does bring a lot of attention to your eyes.  I've used several different kinds of mascara, and I've liked most of them.  I like NatureLuxe for summer because it's lighter than most mascaras.  A lot of mascaras weigh your lashes down, causing them to get tangled up in each other.  This mascara doesn't do that.  The only drawback (for me, anyway) is that it does take a little longer to dry.  It's not a huge issue for me because I always put mascara on after any other eye makeup.

Almay Intense I-Color Eyeshadow Sticks - $7.99 Ulta
I love eyeshadow sticks.  I think they feel so much nicer than powdered shadows, and the shine is unbelievable.  These Almay sticks are great because they come in different colors that complement different eye colors, and who doesn't love when their eyes pop?  Unlike most shadow sticks, these don't get all gunky in the crease.  They're super portable; you can just toss it in your bag or pocket and go.  They're smooth and creamy, and really help make your eyes stand out.

Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm - $6.99 - Walgreen's
I'm a Burt's Bees addict (their regular lip balm is my absolute favorite beauty product of all time...I just love the tingly peppermint oil!).  I love this tinted lip balm because it adds subtle color while protecting your lips and making them feel baby soft.  It comes in six different colors (Hibiscus is my favorite).  They're made with natural ingredients, which is great for those of us with sensitive skin.

essie Nail Polish in turquoise & caicos - $7.75 - Walmart
I'm such a fan of essie polishes, and I love this color for summer.  I rarely paint my fingernails (I think it makes my fingers look all weird and stubby), but I like to paint my toes, especially in the summer.  This color is so beachy and fun, and just makes me want to swim.

  1. You get good luck with shadow sticks? I hate 'em, haha. I can never get them to blend as nicely as I like. Do you use a particular brush?

    1. Shadow sticks have always been my favorite...I still remember buying my first one when I was 13 :) (CoverGirl EyeSlicks...a light blue one).

I don't use a brush; I usually just blend with my finger.

I really do need to invest in some good brushes though.
