Misadventures With A Gas Stove

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

So as I mentioned in the video tour, we have a gas stove in the new place.  Over the past week I've been using the oven part with great success, but hadn't yet used the cooktop.  Last night I was craving pancakes, so I decided to use it.

To being with, I completely forgot that I currently have no mixing bowls, cooking spoons or spatulas, so I improvised.  I mixed everything in a saucepan with a plastic fork.  I was pretty pleased with myself, dancing around singing "I'm MacGyver in the kitchen, yo."  Then it came time to pour it into the pan.

I forgot to grease it up first.

So my (banana) pancake was ready to turn, so I put the turner underneath, but it wouldn't come up.  It was stuck to the bottom of the pan.

So I feed Archie the little pancake bits, get a new pan, and melt a little butter in it (we don't have any oil or cooking spray).  The second time was not a charm.  Perhaps it was the butter?  It was just a big, soggy mess.

I was not a happy camper.

Thankfully, I was able to make mashed potatoes with no issue (and they were yummy).  Now I'm off to brown some ground chuck (Taco Tuesday, anyone?), so we'll see how that goes.

  1. Our new stove top and oven are both gas, too. I've always used electric before, and it is a bit of a change. But it's pretty easy to get used to! You'll get used to it in no time!

    1. Thankfully the taco meat went a lot better last night :)

  2. D: just don't forget to double check that it's off. my brother and his girlfriend almost killed us earlier making rice crispy treats.....i went in the kitchen and the burner was still turned on with no flame....we were all scared to move for fear of a spark lmao. XD

    1. I triple check it, because blowing the house up kind of terrifies me.
