31 Days to Surviving NaNoWriMo - PLAN!

Monday, October 01, 2012

I'm linking up with The Nester for the 31 Days challenge.  Basically, you pick a topic to write about every day in October.  I'm going to help you fiction writers survive NaNoWriMo!

If you've been a reader for awhile, you may remember that last year I participated in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month).  NaNoWriMo is a challenge to write 50,000 words of a novel during the month of November. I won the challenge, but my novel's not done.  It needed a lot of tweaking because I decided to take it in a different direction.

This year I'm writing a fantasy novel, and I'm really excited about it.  November is going to be quite busy for me!

If you like to write or are interested in challenging yourself, I really encourage you to give NaNo a try!

The biggest thing (I think) you can do to make it as least stressful as possible is to PLAN, PLAN, PLAN!!!

I know some of you might not see the need to plan.  I'm normally like that.  I've always been the kind of person who writes by the seat of his/her pants.  I hate webbing.  I hate planning.  I just write as it comes to me.

That's not necessarily the best way to tackle NaNo.

NaNo is a BIG undertaking.  50,000 words doesn't necessarily sound like a lot before it starts, but it's hard to churn it out.  It's better to have an idea of who, when, and where you're writing about, and what's going to happen.

Planning is your friend.  I'll have some helpful tips to help assist in planning tomorrow!

  1. Holy cow, 50,000 words sounds like a lot to me! What a great idea for a blog series, though. I've tried to participate in NaNoWriMo a couple of times, but November and December are when I get the most orders and have the most craft shows. I haven't managed to even come close to completing it.

I'm impressed that you've finished it, and that you're taking it on again. Way to go!

    1. Thank you! I figured it's probably a good time for it, since November is just around the corner! Last year was my first time, and I decided to do it last minute, so I wasn't really prepared. I'm hoping that this will help other people who may be interested prepare themselves for it a bit!

Happy crafting! The holiday season must be crazy busy for you!

I appreciate you taking the time to comment. I read and respond to each and every one. Thank you so much!
