I Think I Might Be A Gym Rat In The Making

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

If you like the blog on Facebook (or follow me on Twitter or Instagram). you probably know by now that I joined a gym Sunday night.

I've always been a little hesitant to join a gym -- let's be real here, I'm a big girl, and I've never really had the self-confidence to go out there and think that everyone wasn't just sitting there thinking Why the heck is that fatty here? Look at her trying to use the treadmill. What a laugh! But I decided that enough was enough, and I need to do this for me, and if anybody has a problem with it, it's not my freaking problem.

I joined Planet Fitness as a PF Black Card member, which gives me access to some perks.

-free use of the massage chairs
-free use of the HydroMassage beds (which I took advantage of!)
-free tanning, if you're into that sort of thing
-free Total Body Enhancement (red light therapy -- I'm looking forward to this!)
-half-price drinks
-free fitness training (but that's available to anyone)

So a few hours ago, I went into the locker room, put on my workout clothes (obvious back fat and everything!) and headed out into the foray to get my workout on. I did half an hour on the treadmill, about ten minutes on the elliptical (my legs were a little jello-y from the treadmill, and I needed a rest), half an hour on the recumbent bike (MY FAVORITE!!! LOVED IT!!!), and then some rotations on machines, including an arm one that was hard and an extender machine for your mid-lower back that I really loved.

And you know what?

It was completely unexpected. I've never really liked much physical activity before, and I didn't expect to like this, but the whole time, all I could think was I feel SO good about myself right now. And I think that's the most important thing I could have taken from this. I was sweaty and not exactly smelling my freshest at that point, and I could not have been more happy to feel so gross. I pushed myself, and I can honestly say that this is the proudest I've been of myself in a long time.

I am going to accomplish my goals. I am going to be smokin' hot. I am going to have a cute baby bump once I get pregnant.

This girl is on fire.

  1. You can do it! :)

Can you share some of your bravery?! I could use it. I won't step foot in a gym. I need to though.

Right now I'm seeing results via eating right and walking but know I'll level out eventually and need to step up my game.

    1. To be honest, it took me a long time to get to a place where I could. I was going later in the evening (like around 845) because I had to nanny until 530, then prepare my classroom, then watch HIMYM with my husband at 8 before heading out, so I was hoping it would be a little emptier when I got there. It was actually pretty busy. But there were people of all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels in there, and it definitely made me feel a lot better. It helps me to have the mindset that everyone is there to better themselves; no matter what anyone looks like, that's what we all have in common.

  2. Woot! I am so glad you love it! I fell in love with the gym a few months ago and it is my favorite ever! I love how strong I feel and I love seeing new muscles pop up! I can't wait to see your body change!!
