Clean(er) Convenience Foods

We all know that prepackaged convenience foods are just that, convenient. But many of us want to eat healthier food that what comes in those handy little packages -- foods without artificial colors, pesticides, GMOs, etc.

With that in mind, I thought I'd do a Top Three Thursday with three of my favorite more convenient, cleaner foods :) (And no, I'm not getting paid or free food or anything for this -- I just really love these products!)

1.) Annie's Natural Macaroni and Cheese

Mac and cheese is a comfort food for so many of us, and though homemade (usually) tastes amazing, there's just something about the stuff in a box that's hard to kick. Unfortunately, Kraft pumps their blue-boxed pasta full of crap that nobody should really be eating (like food dyes, even though they've removed them overseas -- if you're interested in helping to remedy this, check out Lisa and Vani's petition). Fortunately, we have Annie's.

Annie's has only natural ingredients. No artificial colors, no artificial flavors, just real, naturally-derived stuff. Plus the pasta is certified organic, so that never hurts! It's really tasty (I actually had some last night!), and is, in my opinion, way better than Kraft. And if you have kids who refuse to eat anything that's not shaped like a character or animal, fear not -- Annie's makes bunny-shaped mac and cheese too :)

2.) Chobani Greek Yogurt

As most of my Twitter followers have probably figured out by now, I am absolutely gaga for Greek yogurt, particularly Chobani (as Cheap Trick might say, Chobani, you were the first, you'll be the last). Chobani is fat free (or low fat, depending on the flavor), high in protein, and DEEEEE-LISH. There are no artificial colors or flavors, and they use oodles of real fruit. The apple cinnamon (pictured) is my absolute favorite. Yogurt is fairly portable, but it can be difficult for some people to eat on the go. With that in mind, you can get Chobani Champions (their kid-oriented line) in tubes, just like Gogurt. Yup, Greek yogurt. In a tube. In your mouth.

3.) Larabars

Okay, I'll admit it. I have a problem. These things are just SO. FREAKING. GOOD. They're entirely natural (and gluten-free), made of fruit and nuts. One flavor, Cashew Cookie, even has only two ingredients! The main ingredient is dates, which I had never had prior to trying one, and I was pleasantly surprised. My favorite flavor, Coconut Cream Pie, contains dates, coconut, almonds, cashews, and coconut oil. That's it. It doesn't get much cleaner than that! And they make a great grab-and-go breakfast/snack (I know this from a lot of experience!).

  1. Since I've started on my journey to get healthy and lose weight... I've been eating mostly fruits, veggies, and chicken but boy do I miss macaroni and cheese!

  2. Found you via the Bloglovin Collective link-up...I love Annie's Mac & Cheese! Mind you, not as good as the Blue Box, but for someone who has to majorly limit how much artificial sweeteners/preservatives she takes in, it's nice that that is guilt free (at least in that sense). :)


    1. I actually like it better than Kraft. The Kraft tastes saltier to me, and I'm not really into salty stuff most of the time.

  3. I love the Blueberry Lara bar. So good! And the Chobani black cherry is amazing! I use it as my dessert. It smells so good the minute you pull the tab to open the yogurt!

    1. I don't think I've tried the blueberry yet. I'll have to do that! And I like the black cherry Chobani too -- I have yet to find a flavor I DON'T like!
