Wait, What?: Game of Thrones Edition

Wednesday, July 08, 2015

If you follow me on Twitter at all, (or read the few episode reviews I've done), you've probably figured out that I'm a huge Game of Thrones fan. I love the books (and Tom recently got me the set of the books that have already been released, so I can reread them whenever I want!), and I love the show.

Unfortunately, Tom has no interest in watching GoT (BOOOOO!!!), but he does feed my POP! Vinyl habit :)

But just because I love the show doesn't mean there aren't times when I want to scream at it, both in excitement and in anger.

Why does Melisandre ruin everybody's lives?
from gameofthrones.wikia.com

First, she seduces Stannis (it's all downhill from here, bub).

She then gives birth to Stannis's demon doppelganger shadow baby, which then murdered Stannis's brother Renly.

She burns a ton of people alive.

She buys Gendry, seduces him, and plans to sacrifice him, absolutely none of which is okay with me.

She burns Mance Rayder alive (probably).

She tries to seduce Jon Snow.

She convinces Stannis to sacrifice Shireen, HIS OWN DAUGHTER, at the pyre (which leads Stannis's wife, Selyse, who is also Melisandre's most devoted follower, to commit suicide) in order to help turn their fortunes as they march toward Winterfell.

When that doesn't work out the way she thought it would, she abandons Stannis and runs back to Castle Black, where she will hopefully resurrect Jon Snow. And then hopefully Arya will kill her.

Melisandre is the worst. Why Stannis allowed her to boss him around for so long is beyond me. Sure, she has boobs, but you can see boobs anywhere on this show.

And speaking of Gendry...

Is Gendry still rowing?

from Red Cross Chat

I freaking love Gendry, and despite the age difference (which is smaller on the show than in the books), I ship Gendrya (Gendry/Arya) SO hard. Ser Davos, the only redeemable person in Stannis's entourage, was nice enough to set Gendry out to sea so he wouldn't be killed, but we haven't seen him since. In my head, he is rowing to Braavos, where he will reunite with Arya and declare his undying love to her.

A girl can dream.

Is that just not happening at all? It seems like that might be the case, and I will be devastated.

(For those of you not in the know, Lady Stoneheart is the reanimated form of Catelyn Stark, who is OUT. FOR. VENGEANCE.).

I understand why they might leave her out (there's a lot going on without her, after all), but I think that she would make things a lot more interesting. I would be especially interested in seeing what happens if/when she reunites with the Stark kids.

How did the Faith Militant become so powerful so fast?

from moviepilot.com

Seriously, they went from 0 to 60 in King's Landing. Even with Cersei's help, that was a very quick rise to power. And while I understand that people can be manipulated by violence, but there are so many violent people in King's Landing that it surprises me that nobody is fighting back.

I have no freaking clue.
